Investigation without method is opinion with a flashlight. Every EWR engagement runs through eight steps: SCOPE, SURFACE, MAP, CATEGORIZE, INVESTIGATE, RECOMMEND, IMPLEMENT, CAPSTONE.
What each step does
SCOPE draws the boundary — what is in, what is out. SURFACE gathers behavioral data. MAP charts the pattern ecosystem. CATEGORIZE sorts the loops. INVESTIGATE traces the root cause. RECOMMEND selects one high-impact action. IMPLEMENT installs it with Poka-Yoke. CAPSTONE verifies it holds.
Why one action
A 50-page deck with 40 recommendations is a wish list. One action, chosen under investigation constraints, is a decision. Organizations don’t fail from too few recommendations; they fail from un-executed ones.
